First in Sustained, Piloted, Controlled, Powered, Heavier-than-Air Flight of Lasting Technological Significance.

North Carolina license plates are inscribed with the phrase "First in Flight" in commemoration of the Wright Brothers' memorable venture at Kitty Hawk. In fact, it's dubious whether they can truly be credited with first human flight, but with a bit of digging one finds that in fact they managed a significant first--a first one observer described as "First in Sustained, Piloted, Controlled, Powered, Heavier-than-Air Flight of Lasting Technological Significance." That just doesn't have quite the same ring, does it?

We are certainly not the first Californians in "flight" to North Carolina, but this is our first major move as a family, and with any luck our "flight" will manage to be Sustained, Piloted, Controlled, Powered, Heavier-than-Air and of Lasting Significance in our lives. As we've been meeting people for dinner, hugging neighbors and friends at church and talking on the phone to say goodbye, we've come to realize that there are quite a few people who will want to know how life in the Tar Heel state unfolds for us. So, creating this space is one of the ways we have come up with to allow those who want to journey with us to do so.
